  56.         If I understand you correctly, you would like to have "half-sphere"
  57. ends on the rod.   If this is true, then one quick and easy way to do this
  58. would be to create points on one axis that mark the outline of one-half of
  59. the rod as viewed from its "side" (two mirror image arcs connected by a long
  60. line), press "p" to make a polygon, then use "lathe" on the long axis to
  61. create the rod with rounded ends.  After that you can tweak it, or metform
  62. it to complete the model.    Hope this helps.
